One of the more unique soaps we have been making is Bourbon Vanilla. There is no bourbon in the soap, however the therapeutic fragrant oil has a rich oak scent of bourbon, and a soft warm vanilla. Bourbon warm, oaky, with hints of caramel, vanilla, and a touch of smokiness. The aging process in charred oak barrels imparts a depth to its fragrance, making it bold and memorable. We have some amazing ingredients in the soap. This might be a great time to consider the role of each ingredient in the soap. Each oil brings different qualities to the soap. Here is a quick summary
- Olive Oil -Olive is used as a conditioning oil that makes your skin feel soft without greasy. This oil does not add any contribution to lather or longevity of the bar of soap.
- Coconut Oil – This is the oil that helps the bar to be a hard soap, conditioning to make the soap feel great on your skin, and it is one of the strongest oils in the formula to clean your skin well.
- Palm Oil – Is the oil that brings hardness, and teams up to help the soap condition your skin as it cleans.
- Apricot Kernel Oil also helps the soap condition your skin, and adds longevity to the bar of soap
- Babbasoul Oil (I will be writing a post on this oil soon) is the other oil that brings hardness to the bar of soap, super lathering, and wonderful cleaning properties.
- Castor Oil is beneficial for suds, as well as conditioning your skin.
- Sodium Hydroxide, or lye is the catalyst that bonds the oils with the water and essential oil. Without lye they would never blend into a bar of soap.
- The essential oils are for the scent of the soap. We buy “therapeutic grade” and try to use essential oil as much as possible, and cautiously use fragrant oil.
