What are your thoughts on the concept of living a very long life?
When I was a kid I thought it would be so amazing to live to be 100. But I watched my grandparents all pass in their 70s, then my parents pass in their 70s. I realized on the basis of genetics alone it was not likely I would be the outlier and make it to 100.
But as I have aged I see the world changing, and even common things in society are disappearing or becoming rare. I see the severe divide in politics, in education, income, and it makes me more thankful for the gene pool I come from.
My grandma talked about the sweeping changes she saw in her years, going from horse and buggy to cars, and from steam ship passage her from Europe to the ease of flying around the world. Innovations, new technology and new knowledge almost every day. She often said she felt all of this disrupted life, the simplicity of living gave way to the tyrrany of technology.
And in my day we went from long takes in a summer porch swing to incensed with our cell phones. I miss to more social nature we once knew. I fear that by the time I’m 100 people will be rendered obsolete!!!
And there is always the consideration of health. Doing your best to take care of yourself never guarantees health will remain strong.
Short answer- I don’t know how long my days are on this earth, but I will accept what comes whether many more years or just a few. Life is best lived with anticipation, acceptance and joy.
