We are always looking for new scents to add to our mens line of soap. While we were looking through our supplier’s website this one popped out to us. It might have been the name – The perfect man. Or the description of the fragrance. The website describes the scent profile like this:
“Grapefruit and bergamot spark a bright, citrusy opening, sharpened by a hint of lemon. Spiced peppercorn and cool peppermint add contrast, drifting into a base of rugged cedar and smoky vetiver. Labdanum and frankincense linger, rich and mysterious. Bold, invigorating, and effortlessly sophisticated.”
Most of those fragrant notes were familiar, and we have utilized them in various soap recipes, but then there were a few we were not familiar with. Here are some of the notes, and a description of them:
- Bergamot – It is a citrus that is a cross between an orange and a lemon, and is native to Italy. The essential oil is a comforting citrus often a popular addition to aroma therapy.
- Vetiver-This is a perennial bunchgrass that gives a deep, earthy, smoky woodsy scent that is used in perfume/cologne/soap. Vetiver balances other strong fragrances when blended and has a grounding effect. Vetiver is helpful to skin health.
- Labdanum– This is a sticky brown resin obtained from the shrubs of a Mediterranean plant known as rockrose. The fragrance is a sweet, balsamic and leather scent that offers warmth, and depth.
- Frankincense – This is a resin from the Boswellia tree and offers an earthy, spicy aroma,
The formula of soap is luxurious in scent profile, and we add several ingredients to take it to the next level. In addition to the usual oils in the formula (olive, coconut, palm) we add the following oils
- Apricot Oil which offers moisturizing and nourishing benefits to the skin.
- Castor Oil helps with creating luxurious creamy lather, and rich moisturizing and conditioning of the skin. Especially helpful for nourishing dry or sensitive skin.
- Babassu oil created a hard and long lasting bar and helps to give rich lather. This oil offers super moisturizing properties and because it is a light oil it is absorbed quick on the skin without greasiness.
- French green clay is a natural detoxifier and offers a light exfoliation. It is also known to balance skin surface pH. In the soap it offers a light green coloration.
The Perfect Man soap will be available soon. The first batch is made, however it is curing. We dont sell our soap until the pH is testing as neutral.
