Surveillance and Convenience: The Shift in Urban Parking Solutions

A dark urban street scene featuring parked cars with a retro feel, illuminated by yellow surveillance cameras and a full moon in the background.

A few weeks ago Steve and I joined another couple for a professional hockey game in downtown Cleveland. The parking lot attached to the arena was full, so we drove to the next closest parking lot where we discovered there is only 1 person working the lot, and they no longer take cash. Instead they hand you a card with a QR code to scan, and fill in the form. I scanned and filled out the form, added a credit card and we went off to the game. When we got back to the car there was no instructions or clarity on the next step, So we drove out of the parking lot and within 5 minutes an email popped up with a receipt and thank you. The receipt clearly gave the exact time we entered the lot and the exact time we left. Obviously lots of technology is in play there that made getting in and out super convenient. But that email knew so much about exact details. It was so “sanitary”, so clean, and so stripped of human contact. I’m old enough to prefer talking with a human, paying in cash, and not having all kinds of high tech surveillance follow my activity. Do you feel like that? or am i alone in this thought?
