Reflections on My Parents’ Lives at My Age

I have to be honest – time kind of stood still when my parents passed away, and i often thought of their whit and wisdom, but not considered the life that they experienced at the age i am at now. My parents had me late in life, and they were significantly older that my friends parents. That said, now that i have retired from the career job i am thinking about this question and now i understand some of the biggest thoughts they had. Being in my late 60s i now understand the aches and pains of life, and how simple things can become challenges. My parents were like the energizer bunny – they never really slowed down. In the summer dad was always out putzing in the garden, or tinkering with something in the garage, and mom was still baking, and canning, and sewing. I am chuckling to think I followed them and find it hard to be idle… there is always something to be done. I am thankful for their example of growing old with grace and together making a dynamic duo.
