There is an urban legend propagated by one of the big essential oil companies that goes like this:
“During the times of the black plague in Europe a lot of people were dying from the disease, Some of these deceased people had lovely possessions they had left behind upon their demise. Lots of great stuff – but they died of the deadly black plague. A few ingenious thieves put together a blend of essential oils, slathered themselves with it and collected these wonderful left behind posessions, and remained free of the disease.“
I searched the internet for corroboration of this legend without success. Not one link clarifying where and when this was first mentioned.
What is Thieves Essential oil? It is a blend of Clove Bud, Lemon, Euchlyptus, Cinnamon Leaf, Rosemary and we add Vetiver to balance the scent profile.
