Devore is a process that creates a raised pattern on scarves that are either velvet with silk chiffon backing, or satin with silk chiffon backing. A stencil is put on top of the material, and a paste is applied. This paste literally burns out the velvet (or silk), resulting in beautiful patterns with sheer silk, and raised areas of velvet.
