Time Away and Giving Back

Last weekend Steve and I drove to Kentucky for a 4 day festival focused on faith, homesteading and building community, and it was glorious. It was in a campground in northern Kentucky with people from all over the country and we heard someone was there from New Zealand. The interesting thing is that we only know each other from a podcast and online chat but it was family…. wonderful, encouraging and restorative. We really enjoyed the time, made some new friends, and fortified the old friendships we kindled in years past.
Amazing was that this community pulled together a huge stash of clothing, blankets and supplies that is heading to Boone North Carolina. Even more amazing is that the manager of the campground wanted to drive the boxes to the destination. Boone was hit hard with the flooding from hurricane Helene, and there is so much need. Boots on the ground tell us the death toll is in the thousands, and the loss of life, homes and everything is incredibly hard.

Bald guy brew lost one of his two locations, but is committed to keep his staff employeed (many have lost alot, and being able to work gives dignity), and we hear he has begun cooking for those in need of meals, including residents displaced, and linemen, workers, volunteers. Buy some coffee and support his work. By the way, he is one of the top coffee roasters in the united states. and the coffee is awesome. I am recommending EL, a dark roast with lush chocolate notes. yum!!!
