We are taking this week to prepare

Thanksgiving is one of my most favorite days… the sound of our house filled with people. The smell of roasted turkey, and pumpkin pie, and the good china, and sitting down at the table together….. its a wonderful day. But leading up to it is endless tasks… getting the house presentable, shopping for food, preparing everything, and then taking a deep breath as we gather, and thank god for the year that has passed, and the blessings he has offered.

I’m feeling quite sentimental this year, thinking of all of those people that gathered at our dining table over the years who are not with us any more. Especially missing my parents. Mom always was so sweet and supportive. I remember as a fairly newly married woman my oven died the night before thanksgiving. I had a 25 pound bird that needed more roasting time so I spent the night at her house nursing the roasting turkey. And one year we drove to visit Steve’s aunt Alice in Pennsylvania, bringing a brining turkey with us. Funny as these things go, but her oven died. so we ate pork chops for thanksgiving. That is the heart of what makes Thanksgiving day so special. In reality we live with thanksgiving every day, but to take the time to gather, to feast, and to enjoy everyone brings us back to how we need each other, and how fast life flys by.

If i can be honest i am also feeling my 60 something age…. Not sure when the old age truck hit me, but things seem to take so much more energy and time than they once did. But i am thankful for everything, and no matter what comes of life I am eternally thankful for the opportunity to live.

Wishing you and your family a blessed Thanksgiving!
