Blend of Masculinity: Explore Dude Soap’s Unique Fragrance
We are so excited to have a line of soap for men. When we were researching our business one thing we did not see was products for men and we knew we wanted this incorporated in our line. Over the years the line grew from just two scents (Sexy Man and Wild Man) to at least a dozen scent profiles, as well as a line of shaving soap, and solid cologne. Today’s topic is the soap we labeled “Dude”.
In 2018 we visited a gallery opening that was unique. Paintings were paired with perfumes/colognes created by a local perfumery. As we walked the exhibit some things were obvious – a painting of a rose garden in full bloom matched the cloche that filled the air with a heavy rose fragrance. So we strolled, stared at paintings and sniffed the associated scent.
The painting we stopped in front of was massive, and featured a glorious old world fountain flowing with splashing water and lots of people mulling about it. The painting at the left is not the exact one, but close. As we lifted up the cloche the air filled with vibrant notes of sandalwood, cedar and a hint of patchouli. Steve took the scent card with him to the studio and worked until he matched that fragrance with essential oils….
It’s a clean and masculine scent, in a natural super lathering soap formula. The soap offers luxurious lather and is individually packaged to assure freshness to you. But at that moment we were at a loss for what to name the soap. The scent is not a formal scent, but rather reminded us of the everyday, the easy going old friend. We named it Dude.
Dude was the first soap fragrance profile Steve blended up, and we learned so much about the process. When you blend several scents together you have to allow time for the scents to meld and blend together. I started with a few drops of sandalwood, and a few drops of cedar and a drop or two of patchouli. The intent was to have the sandalwood front and center, with cedar as a balance, and the hint of patchouli to round out the scent profile. Steve kept careful notes to be able to reproduce this formula,
Dude has been a big seller, and remains well stocked on our web site. Click the image at left to read more or buy a bar.
Inspiration can come from so many directions. We love this challenge to match what a professional perfumer formulated.
