Solo travel and solo tourism
What’s something you’ve done that you never thought you could?
I have always traveled with family and never alone. It’s almost become a crutch to make sure I had someone else in the family with me. A number of years ago my husband was booked for a conference in San Francisco from his work and I was to accompany him. When they booked his flight, they forgot about me and when they realized there was no seats available on his flight so I had to fly by myself. When we got to San Francisco, I had a lot of downtime while he was in conferences in meetings and I didn’t want to sit in my hotel room alone for hours so I took the courageous step of grabbing my camera and my wallet and I’m headed out into the big city. I was scared as ever and worried that I wouldn’t forget how to get back to my hotel. But courage, Trump fear, and I actually spent the day visiting landmarks in San Francisco and managed to get back to the hotel before his last conference ended. It was a milestone for me because it broke a fear I had and showed me that anything is possible if I just allow myself to do it. I know it probably sounds funny to most people because they don’t think the way I do, but that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
