Celebrating 3 Years at Our New Studio

It seems so hard to believe but March 2026 marks 3 years since we moved our studio from the Artcraft Building on East 26th and Superior to the Cleveland Twist Drill on East 47th and Lakeside. Wow 3 years. We thought you might like to see some of the photos of the move, and the studio now.

From construction of our new studio carved from a former warehouse area with bare stud walls to movers taking all of our stuff, to us finding room in the space for everything. The last photo was the dumpster at Artcraft where we tossed out a number of things, including a large bridal garment rack that we inherited by the previous occupant of our studio at Artcraft.

We have a great view of the end of the runway for Burke Lakefront airport, I90, the big power plant painted with whales, and ofcourse Lake Erie. The down side is our space is 1/3 of what we had at Artcraft, yet a tad more in monthly rent for the space. But the owner is responsive to issues, takes good care of the building, and we have a strong sense of community among the artists in our nook of the building.

Here is the studio we left behind when the city of Cleveland police department bought the building to turn it into their new police headquarters.

One thing we dont miss is the endless flow of homeless people visiting the gas station across the street, camping in the bushes next to the building, or stopping us as they visited the loading dock. Its because the largest homeless shelter was 2 blocks north of us. There were interesting events – fights were common, people stoned out of their mind, passing out in the middle of the street was also a common sight. Something very pathetic to see, yet these people have been living like that at their own decision.

Where we are now is far from residential – its all old warehouses and former factories and you have to have a purpose to drive through the area. The building has good security and surveillance to slow down bad behavior. But we miss our old space.
