Pink Himalayan Salt Soap

For those of you who followed us throughout year you will probably remember the announcement of Pink Himalayan Salt Soap in mid winter.  We were so thrilled with it until we went to cut the soap, only to find it was crumbling like dry cake.  It was back to the research and development phase, tweaking the recipe until we had a soap that would hold together, yet provide the grit of the soap with each lather.  Finally i can tell you it is ready for sale and we are delighted with the outcome.

The soap is made of Olive, Coconut and Palm Oil blended with Eucalyptus and Lemongrass essential oil, pink Himalayan salt and Shea Butter.  The soap was cold process oven processed, and we used a larger mold, so each bar is 3″ x 3″.

Pink Himalayan Salt is mined from deep within the Himalayan Mountain Range.  The salt has a pink color because of the rich amount of minerals in addition to sodium chloride.  The salt formed deep within the mountain range during the Jurassic period in geology… a time when the dinosaurs roamed the earth.  Pressed down by deep layers of earth and rock, the salt is pure, free of modern day pollution.  And from long amounts of time in the earth this salt contains a variety of beneficial minerals bound to the sodium chloride, giving a pink to red hue to the crystals.  The salt we purchase is certified organic, free of any chemical agents and certified kosher, should you choose to consume it.

Adding salt to a cold processed soap recipe ensures a gentle scrubbing action with lavish suds and a salt exfoliation of loose skin.  Salt has been used since ancient times as a cleansing agent, and there is documented evidence that the cleansing action of salt promotes healing and healthy skin.  We don’t make such claims, but we do love how the soap treats our skin.  I have eczema, so i am always cautious with what i use for soap…. preferring soothing, gentle products.  Salt is known to reduce the itching, and has an antiseptic quality that purifies skin.  I have found with using the pink Himalayan salt soap that my eczema is less bothersome, and the desire to itch is drastically reduced.
