Mount Union Art Fest

Saturday we will be heading out to Alliance Ohio, and the picturesque Mount Union College for their 50th annual Artfest.  Here is an except from their press release:

The University of Mount Union will host the 50th annual ArtFest from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 27 around the Campus Lakes.
Sponsored by Mount Union and the Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce, ArtFest will feature original works by area artists in various media, including watercolor, oil, collage, graphics, drawings, fine and functional crafts, photography, jewelry, pen and ink, sculpture, glass mosaics, printmaking and mixed media works. In addition, the category of functional craft has been added this year.
Functional craft includes such works as jewelry, fiber, woodworking, glass, enameling, lights, mirrors, purses/bags, candles, soaps, etc. By definition, functional art and/or craft has a specific utility, yet it is creative either in its purpose or aesthetic appearance.
To date, this year’s ArtFest will feature 63 art and functional craft vendors.
In addition, “A Taste of Alliance,” coordinated by the Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce, will take place simultaneously, featuring food and beverages for sale by area restaurants and caterers. Vendors include Frank’s Family Restaurant, The College Inn, Stone Age Pizza, Tropical Sno and Pucci’s Culinary Cuisine.
Entertainment will be provided throughout the day by Mount Union and Alliance area musicians. Richie Kindler will perform from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by Ladyface Cleveland from noon to 2 p.m. and Mount Union student Angela Romeo from 2 to 3 p.m.
New this year to ArtFest is a children’s activity from 10 a.m. to noon, in which children can create their own masterpieces. Their works will be displayed at the Children’s Gallery from 4 to 6 p.m.
This year’s judge is artist Judi Krew, a working artist based in Canton with a studio called Snarky Art. Over the years, she has displayed her work in more than 140 shows and was an active member in the community, where she donated artwork, volunteered to design and lead projects, and participated in events that benefited children.
Cash awards and ribbons will be presented to the top artists in each category, as well as a Best of Show.

This is new for us, and it was recommended by a fellow artist who does recycled slumped glass.  We are eager to see the campus, and find our spot in the art fair.  Alliance is just south of Canton.  And as a fun fact, i just learned that Mt Union College and Baldwin Wallace College are sister colleges and share a faith based commonality.
