Silk Painting Classes offered

Plans are under way for several silk painting classes in our studio at ArtCraft.  Photos above are from a recent class.  We had a blast, and each scarf was unique and beautifully different from each other.  Express your personality, color choices, style!!!

I am offering a 4 hour class in French Resist (also known as Serti) method of silk painting.

The process is to stretch a piece of silk on a frame, and draw a design on the silk with pencil.  The design is then drawn using gutta, a clear water soluable solution that dries quickly to form the “lines” in the design.  Wherever gutta is applied the silk will remain white.  Once the design is dry, we will select the paint colors, and with a brush we will paint the scarf.  Textures and variation of color can be achieved with the use of water to thin the paint, rubbing alcohol to push color out, and large grain salt to draw the pigments to itself.   The possibilities are endless for design, color and effect.

When?

• Sunday, March 20th 2p-6p
• Thursday, March 24th  6p-9:30

Where?    Classes are held at our studios, located at the Art Craft Building 2570 Superior Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio

All supplies will be furnished and are included in the price of the class.

Refreshments (coffee/tea/water) and light snacks will be served.

At the end of the class the silk will be steamed by the instructor and arrangements will be made to deliver the completed scarf .
