Today is a free day in Meet the Maker March challenge, so we wanted to share a bit more about the building we make our studio in. Located on Superior avenue between East 25 Street and East 26 Street is a stately 1910 brick warehouse and former garment factory. In fact all of the buildings from East 20th to the I90 bridge were once a beehive of clothing production.

Businesses take work and a lot of skill sets, willingness to learn, willingness to risk. And risk sometimes goes south. So why have a business? What attracted us to what we do, and why should you consider starting one? In today’s blog we are looking at our why, and hope we encourage you to find yours.
Over our 11 years in business there have been moments that pressed us out of measure, and we initially wondered why these challenges came along. There was not room for the why – but instead we needed to press on. But something interesting came of the challenge…. challenge brings growth…. and we pivot to adjust to the challenge. In the pivot came discovery…. and in discovery we improved our process, our product, and our outlook. The concept of silver linings speaks not just of a good outcome for what initially looked like an impossible challenge…. but it speaks of the mindset that is willing to look beyond the challenge and ask one question – how?
We continue with meet the maker march by investigating our use of color in soap making and silk painting. Color plays an integral role in improving the spirits of city dwellers. We love the idea that our products can also do so with a pop of color. Join us to learn more.
How does soap happen? Today we are exploring the process of making handcrafted natural soap. Its both a chemistry experience and an art requiring precise measurement of ingredients, temperature monitoring and timing.
