Think Fast!

I have to tell you a story – a true event. Saturday we had planned to be set up for a small art street sale. Our venue was in front of a not quite opened restaurant, in downtown Willoughby. Steve’s brother and his wife had wanted to help us with setup and hang out for the day… so we arrived. Surveyed the site – all brick and concrete…

We dragged out the tent, and set it up, weighted it down with out big concrete pvc weights, and sand bags. and after we put up the sides it was very clear the tent was moving…. because the winds were high and the location we were at was a giant wind tunnel. If this were 80 degrees we might have worked out a solution, but the temperature was in the 40s, bringing the wind chill down to the 30s. Nobody was on the street, and we were blocks from the farmers market that was going on during the morning.

I made a fast decision to pack up and go home…. it was far too windy, cold, and i honestly knew we would be fighting the wind all day. It seemed universal to accept the decision, and the organizer understood. Are you comfortable as a leader to make a decision that may not seem profitable? It was the most logical decision. We packed up and went out for breakfast to a diner… warm, sheltered from the wind…
