Benefits of Cold Processed Soap: Why Choose It?
Have you ever considered the benefits of washing with cold processed soap? When we started making our soap we did extensive research to understand the soap making process, and how we could make the best formula of soap. We started at an age where bar soap was not as favored and chemical laiden liquid body wash was in vogue. We knew we had to understand the concerns, and the benefits of cold processed soap… Here is a quick summary.
Cold processed soap offers superior moisturizing and skin-nourishing benefits compared to commercial soaps, largely because it retains natural glycerin and uses high-quality ingredients. By avoiding intense heat, this method creates a gentle, long-lasting, and often eco-friendly bar that hydrates skin rather than stripping it. Our soap formula calculates a 5% increase in oil in the formula to make sure we are “super fatting” the soap which means as you wash our soap is replacing the oils otherwise lost by store bought detergent type soap.
Key benefits of cold processed soap include:
- High Glycerin Content: Cold process retains naturally produced glycerin, a humectant that attracts moisture to the skin, providing superior hydration.
- Gentle on Sensitive Skin: Because the ingredients are not subjected to high heat, they retain their moisturizing properties, making these soaps milder and ideal for sensitive or dry skin.
- Superior Ingredients: These soaps typically contain natural oils, plant-based butters, and essential oils, while avoiding synthetic preservatives and fragrances. Our soap recipes vary, but typically include olive oil, coconut oil, and palm oil. And we buy essential oils for the scent whenever possible.
- “Superfatted” for Nutrition: Many cold process soaps are “superfatted,” meaning extra oils remain unsaponified, leaving a moisturizing, protective barrier on the skin.
- Eco-Friendly and Sustainable: The process is generally more sustainable, often featuring biodegradable ingredients and minimal, plastic-free packaging. Our soap is wrapped in a light waxed paper that you can still smell the scent through.
- Customizable and Artisanal: This method allows for intricate, artistic designs, scents, and skin-specific formulations. We offer specific soaps for specific purposed: French green clay for acne prone facial skin; Avocado Facial bars for super dry face skin; Shaving soaps that include bentonite clay that makes for a close clean shave.
Cold processed soap requires a curing period of 4–6 weeks, resulting in a harder, longer-lasting bar that lathers well and feels smoother on the skin We cure our soap fully, testing with pH strips to ensure we sell soap that has fully cured and is at a neutral pH.
