Why recycle plastic bags?

First of all, thank you to each and every person who has saved, collected and given me bags of bags. When I began crocheting plastic bags into Reblooming Bags I never dreamed how many plastic shopping bags it takes to make one bag… but the encouragement is that I have saved that many bags from living in a landfill where they don;t break down for decades.

When I started making these bags I wanted a fun and unusual project. But as I have read more about the prolifertion of plastic waste in our land fills I have realized that this is what one woman can do to reduce the volume of bags going there. I must confess I am slow to move to recycling, but when I do there is something satisfying about it. When we repurpose our waste products we are reducing the volume going to land fills. I have just joined a local organization that is bringing the idea of reducing our waste to zero waste to the forefront of discussion and action.
