Still room in my silk painting class on sunday May 1
Sunday, May 1 from 2-6pm i will be hosting a silk painting class in my studio at ArtCraft Building, 2570 Superior Avenue. We are located on the 6th floor in #605. The class will consist of drawing and painting a silk scarf in the french resist (also known as Serti) method. Participants should come with an idea or a sketch measuring 11″ x 60″ which will be used on your piece of silk. You want to think about how a child’s coloring book is drawn and keep the drawing simple. Think about stained glass designs – that might also be helpful. The key is making sure that your drawing can be easily reproduced on the silk. We will be laying the drawing down on the table, and placing the blank silk on top, carefully tracing the drawing. The resist will dry, and once dry we can begin painting the scarf utilizing a rainbow (30 colors) of premixed paint, or we can try to blend or thin out the paint for different hues. (I do have a few patterns that are fairly easy to copy…. its more fun if you make a scarf that is custom to your own likes.
The fee of $70.00 includes 1 piece of silk, all of the supplies and subsequently the postage to ship the completed piece to your home. Because of the building i am not permitted to bring my steamer to the studio, and because of the paint i am using the silk must be wrapped in newsprint and steamed to set the color and the resist. I turn around the scarf within 1 week.
If this sunday doesn;t work for you I will be offering another class at Creative Space in Avon Lake on Saturday May 28th from 10a-4pm. This class is a bit longer because we will actually be steaming the silk on site, and you will go home with your completely color fast silk.
If you are interested please fill out this form. I will reply within 24 hours.
